For writers, it is important to set aside time to be creative every day. However, sometimes it can feel a little silly to set aside time to be creative when you are not feeling creative at all.

Use this list to engage your imagination and unlock the beautiful ideas that are hidden within your heart. Email us or comment to share more strategies that help you!

  • Inspire yourself. Set goals for your writing. What do you want to accomplish with your message?
  • Create an outline or flow chart for where your story is heading – you can change this as often as you like or need to. Take a look at it often.
  • Quiet yourself, get rid of distractions, and simply write about whatever is on your mind at the time.
  • Read scripture, meditate on it and pray about it.
  • Read material related to the subject you are writing on so that you can write from a “full tank.” (If you decide to use any of this material in your writing, be sure to cite the source.)
  • Ask God where He wants your writing to go next.
  • Read over what you have written so far and just reflect. If any new ideas come to you, write them down.
  • Think about the people you want to help with your writing. Pray for them. Reflect on what you want them to receive from your book.
  • Quiet yourself and draw inspiration from your thoughts – be it a problem to solve, a new idea, an observation that you made. How can your solution, idea, or observation benefit someone else? Write about that.
  • Think about the most common questions that people ask you and write your responses to those questions.

Remember to schedule a daily creativity appointment with yourself and complete
one or a combination of these activities.
